Our Community

As I'm sure your all aware Emmaus Sheffield is a community of 16 made up of ex homeless people working and living together.

We have 5 members of staff and a handful of volunteers that also make up the larger community. This of course does not include other stakeholders such as Trustees and funders to name but two.

Based in the centre of Sheffield in a grade two listed ex cutlery works on the bank of the canal 5 minutes walk from the history Victoria Quay we offer Sheffield's premium charity superstore and accommodation for those that live and work in the community.

The shop is the communities primary source of income, but not sole, we also lease part of our sight to two commercial engineering businesses. Due to our location we do not have much passing trade so rely on sales coming from customers who have to choose to head over to us, as you can imagine for a shop this is far from ideal.

To maximize our sales we have and continue to explore online opportunities, and as I'm sure you will all agree is the future of sales anyway.

Living in such a diverse community is a challenge at the best of times, but also very rewarding we share all of our good times and bad equally. I seem to remember from my childhood this is what neighborhoods did back then.

Emmaus differs from all other homeless services and housing providers in that it doesn't just deal with one aspect of homelessness; housing, employment, health, substance dependency, loneliness.....

Emmaus understands that to offer a long term solution to homelessness a holistic approach needs to be adopted, isolation needs to be dealt with and a sense of self worth and purpose needs to be obtained. This can only be done with a multi faceted approach and a "one size does not fit all " but people are individuals and need to be treated as such approach.

At a time in history that seems to be defined by its breakdown of community and shared responsibility Emmaus federation stands tall as an example and inspiration to many and flags the desperate need so many have to not live in isolation and segregation but to feel part of a caring community and society that promotes a sense of well being, direction and purpose.

Emmaus Sheffield takes great pride in the community and all who live, work and support it in its ability to tackle homelessness in the way it does.
