The smallest act of kindness is better than the greatest of intentions.

This week for a lot of people will be their last payday before Christmas and with the continued austerity measures and all the existing financial pressures on people its a natural time to be watching the pennies.

I'm not going to go on about the pressures on the homeless or homeless services at this time of year. I'm sure as we start to fill the cold we are all too aware of how this feels for those that have no escape from it.

I know lots of us look at the plight of the homeless and those that suffer from extreme poverty and think I would love to do something, but really what can I do?

Well the two quotes in this post say it all really. Some fast food outlets have a 99p menu, a cup of tea costs about the same, do you have a old blanket, hat, gloves? Big gestures are great but not always needed.

There is around 35 million people in the UK if we all gave £1 each what a difference we could make. I know not everyone would give, but why not us. I'm not talking about giving cash to beggars, but there is a scheme being run in Sheffield and other cities around the country where you can pay for an extra coffee our meal in a shop and that is then given to a homeless person.

More and more of these sort of Schemes can be found in cities and towns across the UK. So as we prepare to enjoy the celebrations that are approaching don't feel bad for those that are not as well off as ourselves, instead do the small act of kindness that you can.
