It's Friday once again and after watching the news all week I don't know what to think really. I don't have an idealistic view of the world, or think "in the good old days..." the world has always been a mess and as long as humans are about it always will. But, some of this weeks events I find hard to understand.
It's not the place of this blog to judge or to make controversial comments, but to encourage and stimulate thought. We, - as you are all well aware,- at Emmaus Sheffield are a homeless charity so work with and around some extreme poverty and come across some extreme views at times, but this week has been a challenge.
#howsafe2015 launched this week and one of the questions that comes to my mind is, who or what really is the greatest danger to our children. We have one story this week of mothers apparently taking their children into a war zone, the news of a 17 year old suicide bomber and a 21 year old mass murderer.
As I said my job is not to judge or come to conclusions on these issues but to question. How do we protect our children when families and communities seem to be so bent on programming children with hate.
The last comment I heard on the news this morning before coming to work was from the son of one of the murder victims of the church murders in the US. He said that he had forgiven the killer of his mother, the reporter then ask how one day after the killing had he been able to come to that point. His response was simple and to the point, he said, "Love is stronger than hate."
